Elga Popova

I'm Elga Popova.

I'm a writer and artist from Belarus. I currently live in Poland.
I write stories, novellas, and poems for children in Belarusian and Russian. I also illustrate books, including my own.

I want this childlike, spontaneous perception of the world to stay with people for as long as possible. I want people (both young and old) to continue to notice the wonders in the ordinary. I consider the main goal of my work to be to add a touch of magic to everyday life. To prolong childhood for children and restore it, at least briefly, to adults. I write my books so that they will be interesting not only to children but also to their parents.

By 2026, five books of my own authorship and fifteen with my illustrations have been published. In 2024, my book "Mora ў goradze" (Sea in the City) was published, winning the Tsetki Prize and the best children's book of the year written in Belarusian. My stories have been published in collections of winners of the literary competitions "Chu!Detstvo" (Childhood) and "Konkurs immort sfantaziki (Immort Fantasy Competition)" and in the magazine "Formaslov" (Formaslav), and have been dubbed by audio publishers.

In 2026, my book "Sonya and the Wolf: Sonja und Wölfchen" (Sonja and Wolf) was published by the Swiss publishing house Sandermoen Publishing. This bilingual book features simultaneous translation from Russian into German, brilliantly translated by Katya Panyutina.
